Top selling plants of 2022

Date: 1 March 2023

We always like to look back and review how we did over the last year. One key measure is what were our top selling plants for the year? In 2022 it was fairly similar to previous years.

Our biggest seller most years including last year is Erigeron karvinskinanus. This little daisy is great for every garden, so versatile that is flowers from early spring until autumn. It is often found growing in nooks and crannies and is great to fill gaps at the front of a border.

number 2 and 3 top selling plants Salvia caradonna and geum totally tangerine

Salvia Caradonna and Geum Totally Tangerine are our next most popular plants. Personally I think the dark purple and vibrant orange look amazing together. Both are hardy and a must for every garden. They both will continue flowering through summer into autumn.

Stipa tennuisima pony tails is our best selling grass. Know as Mexican feather grass it’s great to fill in gaps in borders and soften edges. It produces soft seed heads that ripple in the wind. Also loved by the cats on the nursery, on a hot sunny day you can often find Velma sunbathing in the Stipas!

number 5 top selling plant Endymion non scripta

The English Bluebell is number 5 on the list. Endymion non-scripta is its latin name. These flowers often seen in ancient woodland are a wonderful sign of spring. With their nodding bell flowers in vivid blue and a lovely scent they often are associated with fairy’s. Very good for bees and butterflies, as they flower earlier than other plants giving a vital source of nectar, in the early spring months.

Lastly Verbena Bonareinsis, we grow this in 1 litre pot, 2 litre pot , 5 litre pot and 10 litre pots as its so popular. With purple flower heads that are a massive attraction to bees and butterflies, they flower all summer long. If you leave in place will give winter interest from their seed heads and a great source for birds like finches. It will self seed in your border but can fill tall gaps at the back of any border.
