Autumn Grasses
Autumn is the time of year when Grasses really come into their own. We move away from the bright colourful hues of the summer to a more muted palette of colours, although grasses will develop red and orange shades as they age, really giving that autumn vibe.
They have a real aesthetic appeal in the garden. They provide height and texture, and when the wind blows, they produce movement and sound!
One of our stunning grasses at the moment is Miscanthus Malepartus. With its feathery red pink plumes held high above the green foliage, it really is striking and creates a great focal point in a garden.
A really popular grass for prairie planting or gravel gardens is Stipa tenuissima Pony Tails. A real feathery appearance to this grass with green foliage and plumes which clump together like a pony tail!
The cascading mound of Carex testacea Prairie Fire with narrow green leaves which are tipped with orange. As the weather cools the colour intensifies!
Panicum Northwind is one of the best upright grasses! With narrow olive green foliage and masses of finely textured flower spikelets held above the foliage.
Why not try adding some grasses into your garden this Autumn!
