It is very easy to fill our gardens with colour when we have lots of Spring Bulbs or Summer perennials available for us to use, but how do we get Autumn Colour into our garden?
There are the obvious plants like Rudbeckias, Hesperantha and Anemones which give us colour later into the season but there are lots of other plants we can add to gain extra colour. It is not just all about flowers!
Grasses give us great movement and texture and can add a subtle bit of colour to a border with their silver or pink feathery flower heads. Grasses like Imperata Red Baron also have the added benefit of the rich colour of the foliage.

Foliage colour is of great importance through the Autumn and Winter as it makes up most of the colour in the garden. Heucheras provide amazing Autumn Colour with their rich tones of purple, coral, orange and green.
Another way of adding colour is through the stems of plants. Cornus (Dogwood) have the most amazing colour stems, ranging from bright red to yellow, orange or green. You also get the most amazing colour on the leaves as they change before falling.
