Prenplants Update – November 2015

Date: 11 November 2015

As the golden leaves find their way to the ground and leave trees and shrubs looking bare, it can make an outdoor space look rather empty, just waiting for spring to bring those fresh green shoots again. bare, dull corners can still be livened-up though, with Heucheras’ foliage providing pops of purple, orange, red and yellow hues. The jewel- like vibrancy of these classic perennials can brighten up a garden on the dullest of days. Hesperantha (Schizostylis) are also in flower right now and shouldn’t be overlooked as another way to introduce some colour and form to the garden at this time of year.

Despite the gloomy weather and steady run-up to Christmas we’re still looking ahead to spring as we settle in the last of the new bulbs. If anyone missed the chance to plant bulbs directly into the ground this year, come spring we’ll be able to provide some instant splashes of colour with the likes of Hyacinth, Tulip, Iris, Daffodils and Bluebells to name but a few. This is the first year we’ve grown these bulb varieties at Prenplants, so we’re excited to see how well they take to our peat free compost.
